My Experience

For most people, nutrition is that missing link...that elusive unicorn that you can't quite get hold of.  With all of the information available from anyone with a .com, it's easy to see why we all get so confused!  What is a reliable source of information?  Is that trendy diet really safe?  Will it REALLY help me lose 30 pounds in 10 days without exercising?

I would love to help you sort through the "Junk" to identify a nutrition plan that works for you.  Nutrition can be about losing weight, but it is also about feeding your body so that it operates optimally and stays healthy. Your body is a miracle.  Nourish it.  Love it.  Take good care of it.

Your goals are unique to you. Each plan is tailor made to you and your needs.

Learn

Our first consultation is free and is a chance for me to learn about you, your goals, and your expectations. For this meeting, you will bring a detailed diary of the foods that you've eaten for the last 3 days. This is a critical part of the process that ensures that I create a custom plan for you.

Implement

The next time we meet, I will have your custom plan created.  We will spend some time discussing the plan, your personal numbers and percentages, and look at the types of foods in each category.  I will answer your questions and make sure that you are comfortable going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I stay away from carbs?

Carbohydrates are not the enemy. Carbs are a necessary fuel type for a healthy, efficient system and the only fuel source for our central nervous system.  The problem is the amount of processed carbs (white breads and junk food) that we, as Americans consume.  A better choice is to change the carbs we eat, focusing more on fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grain.

What is the best diet to lose fat?

Is gluten bad for me?

In short, NO.  Gluten is not bad for you and you do not need to eliminate all grains...UNLESS you have celiac disease or FODMAP intolerance.  If you aren't sure, remove them from your diet for a week or so and take stock of how you feel, your energy level, and your digestive health. Know your body.  If you don't notice a difference, don't eliminate it.  Whole grains have many benefits from the vitamins, minerals, and fiber they contain.  So, if your system can digest grains, include them in your diet.

Should I do a juice or detox cleanse?

Unfortunately, there is no "best diet".  The best plan is one that includes a slight calorie deficit, is well balanced in protein/carbs/fats, contains an abundance of nutrient dense foods at least 90% of the time, and would fit into your lifestyle and schedule so that it can be maintained over the long term without adding additional stress.  Think healthy, not skinny.  If you are eating to nourish, with minor changes in calorie intake, you will see the results you are looking for, you will feel better, and you will be able to maintain your healthy weight long term.

These do not fit into the lifestyle approach that I encourage for my clients.  Detoxes can cause protein deficiency, too few calories consumed daily, restrictive eating or deprivation, severe blood sugar fluctuations, and dramatic mood swings.  In my opinion, lifestyle approaches to diet and nutrition will optimize health, performance, and the way you feel.  If a client insists on pursuing a detox for a short period of time for gut health, then I will stand by them through it and then help them to develop a healthy eating plan afterwards.
